2014 GMC Sierra, Chevrolet Silverado Get Price Boost

If the GMC Sierra or Chevrolet Silverado were on your short-list to take for a test drive, you might want to stop by a dealership soon to get the best price.

General Motors announced this week that the price on the 2014 Sierra and Silverado will be going up $1,500. Most buyers won’t notice the increase until the end of the month, however, because General Motors is offering incentives and cash-back offers up to $1,500.

When October is over, GM is confident that car buyers will continue to pay more for the Sierra and Silverado. Spokesman Jim Cain told Fox Business, “We have the best trucks, and they’re the best value in the market.” Cain might be right, but they will be a better value to customers before the price increase goes into effect.

J.D. Power and Associates: The World’s Happiest Car

American consumers want the best of everything, especially when it comes to their cars. They walk into car dealerships with mountains of research on which car is the most fuel-efficient, the most powerful, the best car for a growing family, and so on and so forth. Interestingly enough, though, a new study from J.D. Power and Associates did not rank popular vehicles by these typical factors but rather looked at which car brand has the happiest owners.

The results of the study were based on 77 attributes. Each vehicle and brand was assigned a numerical score and then ranked on overall brand, best city car, best compact, best midsize premium, and so on. The industry as a whole came in with a score of 795, not much lower than the top-scoring brand which was the Porsche.

American brands performed fairly well in the survey with the Chevrolet Sonic winning Best Sub-Compact, Chevrolet Volt winning Best Compact, Ford Mustang winning Best Midsize Sporty Car, and Dodge Charger winning Best Large Car. Ford and Chevrolet also managed to make it into the top 5 car brands, and Chrysler and GMC made it into the top 10.

GM Offers 2 Years Free Maintenance on All 2014 Models

Going into the summer, most automakers are offering incentives and discounts, hoping to sway car shoppers to walk into their dealership instead of a competitor’s showroom. General Motors might have come up with one of the better incentives this week, though, when they announced free maintenance on all 2014 Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC models for 2 years or 24,000 miles.

Before the announcement, free maintenance was only available to Cadillac owners for four years or 50,000 miles, and typically free maintenance is a service only available to customers buying high-end cars like BMWs or Jaguars. Additionally, the service is transferable if the car is resold to another owner.

In a press release, General Motors Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson observed that GM customers who went to a GM dealership to service their vehicle were “much more likely” to choose another GM vehicle in the future. “It’s all the more important to bring customers to our service facilities for routine maintenance to further enhance the quality and reliability of their GM vehicles.”

By offering free maintenance on all 2014 models, it sends a positive message to GM car buyers. No matter what their price point, GM wants to give all their customers the luxury of free maintenance for the first two years. CONSUMER ALERT: GM Recalls Trucks, Vans for Roll-Away Problem

Over the weekend, GM announced a recall of approximately 69,000 2013-model full-size trucks and vans including the Cadillac Escalade and Chevy Silverado.

According to General Motors, there has been a problem with these vehicles shifting out of park and rolling away. They believe the problem could be defective transmission interlocks, but GM has also said that the problem could be due to a fractured park-lock cable or a deformed steering –column lock-actuator gear.

Recalled vehicles include:

Cadillac Escalade
Chevrolet Avalanche
Chevrolet Express
Chevrolet Silverado
Chevrolet Suburban
Chevrolet Tahoe
GMC Savana
GMC Sierra
GMC Yukon

Fortunately, most of the vehicles affected by the recall are still on dealer lots since they are 2013 models, but any car owners affected by the recall will be contacted by GM about replacing the vehicle’s steering column for no charge. Auto Loan: 2014 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra to Offer Cloth Heated Seats

What is the worst part of winter driving? Some people would say slick roads, scraping snow and ice off the windows, or enduring Christmas music on every single radio station. For me, the worst part of winter driving was that after I cleared off my windshield and jumped in my car, the seat was always freezing. Even after turning up the heat, it felt like my car seat was the last part of my car to warm up.

Apparently I’m not the only one who hates cold winter car seats. This week, GM unveiled the 2014 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra, and in addition to better fuel economy, new engines, and knobs that are easier to grip while wearing gloves, the Silverado and Sierra will have cloth heated seats.

Cloth heated seats might not seem like that big a deal, but most automakers pair heated seats with leather interiors. The reason why most automakers don’t offer cloth heated seats is because it is more expensive to manufacture than leather heated seats. As a result, car shoppers usually have to make a choice between heated seats or a cloth interior.

I wonder if GM’s decision to offer cloth heated seats in the Silverado and Sierra will lead to more car buyers demanding that other automakers start offering it as an option. Veteran’s Day: GM Military Discount Now More Inclusive

Last Sunday was Veteran’s Day, but even before Sunday, General Motors was honoring our veterans by announcing an expansion on their current military discount.

For years, GM has offered discounts on most Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC models for active duty, reservists, and retired service members and their spouses. Starting this weekend, however, the program will be expanded to veterans within a year after discharge. Linda Stouffer, who serves as GM’s marketing manager for vehicle service programs, explained that the expansion would help include more returning veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan and emphasized that the program is “just one way” that GM thanks America’s servicemen and women.

In addition to the military discount, GM supports Cell Phones for Soldiers, Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans, the Fallen and Wounded Soldiers Fund, and numerous other employment initiatives for returning soldiers. They are also sponsors of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Hiring Our Heroes initiative, a nationwide program that sponsors hundreds of hiring fairs every year.
