Cadillac Escalade Announces New York City Premiere Event

New York City is host to many high-profile events, and next month, Cadillac will premiere its next-generation Escalade in the city that doesn’t sleep.

The Escalade will be the only GM SUV that will not be premiering at the Texas State Fair which runs from Friday, September 27 through Friday, October 20. Instead, Cadillac will be hosting a premiere event Monday, October 7 at the Altman Building to show off the Escalade all on its own.

Celebrities and high-profile figures from Mark Wahlberg to Snookie love the Escalade, and with a solo event in New York, Cadillac is sending a clear message about the Escalade. This is a luxury car that is anything but stuffy. As Cadillac puts it, the new Escalade is more than a car; it is a “bold, evolutionary statement.”

In 2012, Cadillac sold 12,615 Escalades in the United States, and from January through July 2013, Cadillac sold 6,782 Escalades in the United States and an additional 252 in Canada.

CONSUMER ALERT: Chrysler Recall on Certain Trucks, SUVs

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced a recall on certain trucks and SUVs manufactured by Chrysler Group LLC from 2009 top 2012.

According to the report filed with the NHTSA, the issue is a rear axle pinion nut that if loosened can cause the axle to lock up, and the driver could lose control of the vehicle. Chrysler is contacting the owners of all affected models, and owners can get a pinion nut retainer installed free of charge at a Chrysler dealer.

Affected vehicles include:

2009 – 2012 Ram 1500
2009 – 2011 Dodge Dakota
2009 Chrysler Aspen
2009 Dodge Durango

If you are unsure if your vehicle is affected, you can contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.

Paris Motor Show: What’s New and Shiny from Chevrolet

The Paris Motor Show kicks off tomorrow, and all the major car manufacturers are giving auto enthusiasts an early sneak peek at what they can expect to see from the show. Today is our last day of coverage before the show, but you can get the latest from the Paris Motor Show via the show’s official website.

Chevrolet will be only debuting one new SUV at the Paris Motor Show, but they are showing off several new updates to old favorites that are certainly worthy of note.

First up, the headliner is the new Chevrolet Trax which Chevy has touted as dependable yet modern, a highly versatile SUV that handles like a car. It is a smaller sized SUV but has space to seat 5 people, and the seats can be folded over for additional storage in the back. For the driver, the Chevrolet Trax will include Chevrolet MyLink as a standard feature. MyLink syncs with the driver’s smartphone and allows the driver to place calls, select a music playlist, get directions, or access other information from their smartphone on the car’s high resolution touchscreen.  The screen also shows the car’s rear view camera, an invaluable tool when parallel parking.

I have a feeling that the Trax will appeal to people who like the look and space of an SUV vs. a sedan but prefer the handling of a smaller car. Families will probably be the target audience, and with the MyLink system as a standard feature, I could see the Trax doing very well with car shoppers who might otherwise consider a minivan or a four-door hatchback sedan.

The rest of Chevy’s Paris Motor Show line-up is mainly redesigns and updates. The Chevy Spark will get a redesigned grille, front bumper, head light covers, and fog lights as well as a new center LED light in the spoiler above the window. Additionally, the Chevy Orlando will be getting a new 1.4L turbo gasoline engine that will be more fuel efficient at about 38 miles per gallon, and the Cruze station wagon and Malibu diesel will be on display, though they have already premiered in Europe. Finally, Chevrolet’s two Youth Concepts, the Code 130R and Tru 140S, will be on display again. These concepts have previously been on display at shows around the world from New York to Beijing and Geneva, and they have gotten rave reviews. The Code 130R even made CNET’s top 10 best concept cars of the international auto show season, so while the Code 130R and Tru 140S have already been seen around the world, they are still an exciting addition to the Paris Motor Show.

Gas Prices Equal Increase in Used Car Sales

Gas prices may be on the rise, but apparently that’s not going to make an impact on used car sales according to predictions by the National Automobiles Dealers Association (NADA).

The expectation is that the average gas price will peak at $4 a gallon this May.  Normally, when gas prices are high, the average consumer didn’t like getting a car loan to buy a used car.  This year, however, seem to be an exception of the rule.

Jonathan Banks, an analyst with NADA Used Car Guide, says that the rise in gas prices won’t make that big of an impact in their decision.  “Considering consumers have become accustomed to gasoline prices that averaged more than $3.50 last year, this time around we don’t expect to see dramatic shifts in the shopping behavior of consumers for more fuel-efficient vehicles when prices approach the $4 mark.”

He continued on to say that compact cars will be seeing a raise in demand while the SUV, notorious for gas-guzzling, will see a drop.  This is highlighted by the sales in February which were at a four-year high.  Compact vehicles especially are seeing a boost by 16 percent.
